[Abstract] ABB ’s business in the Chinese market has two major highlights in 2013 , namely the vigorous development of electric vehicles and robots . ABB is cooperating with BYD and other companies to build the world’s largest electric vehicle fast charging network in China .
The 2013 financial report recently released by ABB, the world’s leading power and automation technology group, shows that ABB (China) Co., Ltd.’s order volume and sales revenue in 2013 hit a record high, both reaching US$5.6 billion, with new investment of US$136 million throughout the year. The total cumulative investment in China is US$1.8 billion.
Combined with China’s industrial layout development strategy and macroeconomic environment, ABB’s business in the Chinese market has two major highlights in 2013, namely the vigorous development of electric vehicles and robots. ABB is cooperating with companies such as BYD to build the world’s largest electric vehicle fast charging network in China; and provides robotic products and solutions for the automotive industry and 3C industry. Throughout last year, ABB’s share price rose by 28%.
Gu Chunyuan, head of ABB Group’s North Asia and China, said on the 27th: “ABB’s business in China developed healthily and steadily in 2013, mainly due to the country’s focus on the quality of economic growth, the promotion of green and low carbon, and the development strategy with sustainable development as the core. .”
ABB predicts that China will become the global leader in the field of fast charging of electric vehicles in the future. ABB announced that it will launch a strategic cooperation with Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology Co., Ltd. (BDNT) to provide DC fast charging piles to it in the next six years, which will become the world’s largest electric vehicle fast charging network . The wall-mounted charging pile adopts a series of innovative designs that are user-friendly, safe and reliable, including a mobile app that allows car owners to remotely monitor the charging status of the vehicle and receive relevant prompts. The first batch of products is scheduled to be delivered in mid-2014 and will be sold in conjunction with electric vehicles through the dealer network of DENZA, the first electric vehicle owned by BYD Daimler New Technology Co., Ltd. DENZA passenger car has a cruising range of more than 200 kilometers, making it one of the first high-range electric vehicles in the domestic market .
In addition, as the only multinational company in China that has truly localized the entire value chain of industrial robots from R&D, production, sales, engineering to service, ABB provided robot products and automobile manufacturing solutions to BMW’s Shenyang Tiexi production base in 2013. According to the plan, ABB robots are mainly engaged in handling, gluing and spot welding on the BMW assembly line. At the same time, ABB also provided robot automation solutions to Volvo Cars’ Chengdu production base and became the first domestic robot supplier to provide water-based glue system solutions.
As China’s labor costs continue to increase and supply continues to decline, in 2013, ABB’s industrial robot research and development focus in China gradually shifted from large robots mainly for automobile production to small robots for the upgrading and transformation of the 3C industry. ABB has launched in China the “Chinese Dragon” IRB120, the world’s fastest and most accurate six-axis small robot .
